Who Is This Jesus?

Who Is This Jesus?”
He is Revealed in Every
Chapter of John’s Gospel

The most amazing revelation of Jesus in the Gospels is John’s Gospel.
It reveals the Deity of Christ.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:1-2 KJV

It reveals the Pre-incarnate Work of Christ.
All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.
In Him was Life; and the Life was the Light of men.
And the Light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not (vv.3-5 KJV).

And it reveals the Incarnation of Christ.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His Glory, the Glory as of the Only Begotten of the Father,) full of Grace and Truth.
John bare witness of Him, and cried, saying, This was He of Whom I spake, He that cometh after Me is preferred before Me: for He was before Me.
And of His fulness have all we received, and Grace for Grace.
For the Law was given by Moses, but Grace and Truth came by Jesus Christ (vv.14-17 KJV).
“The True Light” that gives Light to every man was coming into the world (verse 9)—John was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light (vv.6-8).

Who is this JESUS?
HE is ETERNAL.
HE is PERSONAL.
HE is CREATIVE.
HE is LIGHT GIVING.
HE is LIFE GIVING.
HE is ILLUMINATING.
HE is SAVING.
HE is GRACIOUS.

In John chapter 1 He is “the Word of God.”
John the Baptist testified that ‘the Word which was in the beginning;’ which ‘was made flesh, and dwelt among us’ is the Son of God.
And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from Heaven like a dove, and it abode upon Him.
And I knew Him not: but He that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon Whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, the same is He which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
John 1:32-34 KJV

In chapter 2 He is “the Son of Man.”
Matthew 24 mentioned, "the sign of the Son of Man" at His Coming.
In chapter 2 we see “the sign of the Son of Man,” firsthand.
And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
And both Jesus was called, and His disciples, to the marriage.
And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto Him, They have no wine.
Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? Mine hour is not yet come.
His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it.
And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
And He saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth His Glory; and His disciples believed on Him.
John 2:1-11 KJV
This was 'the first sign' Jesus gave.
The first glimpse of His Glory while yet in the likeness of man.
Cana in Galilee was the place where He began to perform miracles. It was the place of His first public demonstration of His Heavenly Power, and by this, His disciples believed that He really was “the Messiah.”

In the Old Testament, God the Father demonstrated to Israel His Glory and Greatness; though He spoke to them in a loud Voice, from atop the mountain, out of the fire, cloud, and deep darkness of the cloud.
The assembly heard His Voice out of the dark clouds and the mountain burned with fire—they heard His Voice out of the midst of the fire, yet He showed them that God can talk with man and yet he lives (read Deut.5:22-24).
The Father demonstrated His Greatness and His Glory to His people in that Old Covenant, but “the Son of Man” came and gave His ‘sign’ to us in the New Covenant.
The Jews asked Jesus, "What miraculous sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?" (John 2:18 NIV)
He answered and said to them:  “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up” (v.19).

In chapter 3 He is “the Divine Teacher.”
Nicodemus said to Jesus, “Rabbi, we know that Thou art a Teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that Thou doest, except God be with him (v.2 KJV).
Jesus replied, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God” (v.3 KJV).
Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? (v.4 KJV)
Then, Jesus answered him saying, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of Water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit (vv.5-8 KJV).

Jesus is "the Divine Teacher"; His miraculous works testify that He is 'the promised Messiah.'
His teachings produce the proof that He came from God.
In this chapter, He reveals that unless a person is born from above, it's not possible to see what "the Divine Teacher" is pointing to — to God's Kingdom." He teaches that except a man is of the original creation (born of Water and of the Spirit)—being a part of the new creation, he cannot enter into eternal dwellings.
What He speaks about, He knows; and what He gives evidence of, He has seen; even though the world does not accept Him.
Jesus’ Wisdom proofs His office as "the Divine Teacher."

In chapter 4 He is “the Soul-Winner.”
Jesus said:
“My meat is to do the Will of Him that sent Me, and to finish His work.
Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto Life Eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours” (John 4:34-38 KJV).
He is “the Soul Winner” Who “won” the Samaritan woman—the woman at the well.
Many of the Samaritans believed in Him (v.39). In verse 42 they said to the Samaritan woman, “Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard Him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world” (KJV).
He is the One Who leads to Rest and Eternal Reality. In Him is “the gift of God” [Eternal Life] which is freely given to anyone who receives Him.
He is “mighty to save.”

In chapter 5 He is “the Great Physician.”
Jesus Christ is “the Great Physician.” He healed a lame man at the pool of Bethesda.
Jesus saith unto him, “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.”
And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the Sabbath (John 5:8-9 KJV).
Verse 20 goes on to say that the Father Loves the Son and shows Him all He does. And that to “‘the amazement of the Jews’ He will show Him even greater things than these.” This means that the Son will do far more awesome miracles than this man's healing.

In chapter 6 He is “the Bread of Life.”
“And Jesus said unto them, I am the Bread of Life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger…”
John 6:35 KJV
"The Unleavened Bread" (bread made without yeast) points to Jesus—the Bread of Life. He is the ‘Bread’ which is ‘Life.’
“The Bread of Life” gives us Life, Nourishment, Strength, and Vitality.

Natural bread is flour, water, and yeast mixed together and baked. Unleavened Bread (bread made without yeast) consists of only flour and natural water.
Natural water is the basis of natural life.
Flour is a powder obtained by grinding grain such as wheat—from this we derive nourishment.
Water sustains natural life, and flour is for nourishment. But more than this, “the Living Bread” is unto us Eternal Life.
“…It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matt 4:4 KJV).
“The Bread of Life” is “the Living Word”—our daily Bread. This is why we are to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matt 6:11 KJV).

‘The True Bread’ is a person—the One sent from Heaven by our heavenly Father. ‘The Bread of God’ is He Who came down from Heaven and gives Life to the world (read John 6:32-33).
Jesus is “the Bread of Life.” He is the Eternal Life.

In chapter 7 He is “the Water of Life.”
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink.
He that believeth on Me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
John 7:37-38 KJV
Jesus is “the Water of Life”—the water that satisfies our spiritual thirst.
Anyone who drinks of this water receives the Holy Spirit.
Verse 39 goes on to say:
(But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive:
for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) KJV
The Spirit of Christ Jesus is “the streams of living water” which flows out of our innermost being. Like “the fountain of Life” which flows from the throne of God in Paradise (Rev. 21:6; 22:1), He flows out of the innermost being of every child of God.
He is “the Water of Life”—‘the free Gift of God’ given to humanity (see Rev.22:17).
“The Water of Life” refreshes, supports, and strengthens the spirit and the soul; and is given to us without cost.

In chapter 8 He is “the Defender of the weak”
And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto Him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
They say unto Him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
Now Moses in the Law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest Thou?
This they said, tempting Him, that they might have to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down, and with His finger wrote on the ground, as though He heard them not.
So when they continued asking Him, He lifted up Himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
And again He stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
When Jesus had lifted up Himself, and saw none but the woman, He said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
John 8:3-11 KJV

Jesus is “the Defender of the weak.” Not the Torah-teachers and the P’rushim.
He is the Defender of the weak who stands in court.
The Law states:
If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.
If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;
Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
Deut 22:22-24 KJV

The Law brings the penalty of death to the offender, while Christ Jesus defends, forgives, and freely takes away sins and gives glorious Life instead.
And the free gift is not like the effect of that one man's sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brings justification (Rom 5:16 RSV).
Christ’s ‘declaration of Righteousness’ is our justification to Life.
Then as one man's trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one man's act of Righteousness leads to acquittal and Life for all men (v.18) RSV

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the Law of sin and death.
Rom 8:1-2 KJV

In chapter 9 He is “the Light of the world”
Jesus said, ‘As long as I am in the world, I am the Light of the world. (John 9:5 KJV)
The whole world was covered with spiritual darkness until “the Son of Man” came.
He declared that whoever follows Him will never walk in darkness, but will have the Light of Life (Jn. 8:12).
David wrote a Psalm regarding when he was seized by the Philistines in Gath.  That Psalm was concluded with the words:
“For you have delivered me from death
and my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before God
in the Light of Life”
Ps 56:13 NIV

Jesus is the Light—our Life. His Light brings Salvation.
And He has made us ‘light to the world’ (Mt.5:14).
Proverbs 13:9 states, The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out (KJV).
The wicked and the ungodly do not have this Light (Psa.49:19)

Jesus said, “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of Light…” (John 3:19NIV)
The Light shines in the darkness, ‘and the darkness comprehends it not.’
He is ‘the True Light’ that gives light to every man. His Glory gives light to the Heaven, and the New Jerusalem (Rev 21:23; 22:5).
“The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going.” Put your trust in the Light so that you may become sons of the Light (12:35-36).

In chapter 10 He is “the Good Shepherd”
Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He is the only One Who came and declared:
“I am the Good Shepherd: the Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.”
John 10:11 KJV
But the hired servant (he who merely serves for wages) who is neither the shepherd nor the owner of the sheep, when he sees the wolf coming, deserts the flock and runs away. And the wolf chases and snatches them and scatters the flock.

In verses 14 and 15 the Lord said:
I am the Good Shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known of mine.
As the Father knoweth Me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down My life for the sheep (KJV).
The Good Shepherd nourishes, nurtures, comforts, guides, and protects the sheep. He brings His sheep to the place of Rest.
He refreshes and restores the life of the sheep.
He leads in the paths of Righteousness.
"Though I walk through the deep, sunless valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil."
Psalm 23 speaks a whole lot about Him.

In chapter 11 He is “the Resurrection and the Life”
"…I am the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"
John 11:25-26 NIV
Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life.
When He went to the cross, the earth shook and the rocks split.  The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the graves, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

We are witnesses of the Lord’s Resurrection.
In Acts 4, the apostles testify to the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much Grace was upon them all.
The Holy Scriptures also testify to the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
[The Gospel] regarding His Son, Who as to the flesh (His human nature) was descended from David,
And [as to His divine nature] according to the Spirit of Holiness was openly designated the Son of God in Power [in a striking, triumphant and miraculous manner] by His resurrection from the dead, even Jesus Christ our Lord (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
Rom 1:3-4 AMP

David in his day saw the future and prophesied the Messiah’s resurrection, he recorded:
For Thou wilt not leave My soul in hell; neither wilt Thou suffer Thine Holy One to see corruption (Ps 16:10 KJV).
He was speaking of Jesus, and we all are witnesses that Jesus rose from the dead.

Apostle Paul stood on trial because of his hope in the resurrection of the dead (Acts 23:6).
We are “children of the Resurrection.”  Because we have been united with Him in His death, we are certainly also united with Him in His resurrection.

Our God is the God of the living—not of the dead.
That I may know Him, and the Power of His Resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death;
If by any means I might attain unto the Resurrection of the dead.
Phil 3:10-11 KJV
The purpose of Lazarus' sickness was not to end in death, but for the Glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.
The Spirit of Christ is the One Who raises the dead and gives them life again.
He is the Resurrection and the Life.
He restores natural life and He gives the gift of Eternal Life.

In chapter 12 He is “the Triumphant King”
The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet Him, shouting,
"Hosanna!"
"Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord!"
"Blessed is the King of Israel!"
Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written,
  "Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion;
see, your King is coming,
seated on a donkey's colt."
John 12:12-15 NIV
“The Triumphal Entry” of Jesus was “a royal welcome.”
His disciples threw their cloaks over the donkey and the colt when they brought them to Him. A very large crowd spread their clothes on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields.
Zechariah 9:9 prophesied precisely that “the King” will come “riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
“Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!
Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem!
See, your King comes to you,
Righteous and having Salvation,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
Zech 9:9 NIV
Indeed, when He came into Jerusalem at His ‘Triumphal Entry,’ He rode on a donkey complimented by a colt.
When He entered Jerusalem, the entire city became agitated and trembling with excitement said, “Who is This?” (Matt 21:10-11).
He is “the Triumphant King.”
The great crowd took palm branches and went out to meet Him, shouting,
"Hosanna!"
"Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord!"
"Blessed is the King of Israel!"
This was just as David prophesied in Psalm 118.

Jesus is the King Who comes in the Name of the Lord! (Luke 19:38) He is celebrated with praises.

In chapter 13 He is “the Servant”
Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under His Power, and that He had come from God and was returning to God; so He got up from the meal, took off His outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around His waist. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him.
He came to Simon Peter, who said to Him, "Lord, are You going to wash my feet?"
Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."
"No," said Peter, "You shall never wash my feet."
Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me."
"Then, Lord," Simon Peter replied, "not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"
Jesus answered, "A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you."  For He knew who was going to betray Him, and that was why He said not every one was clean.
When He had finished washing their feet, He put on His clothes and returned to His place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" He asked them. "You call Me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
John 13:3-16 NIV
At “the Lord’s Supper” He unveiled to His disciples that He was “the Servant of the Lord” prophesied to come.  He knew that the time had come for Him to leave this world and go to the Father.  Having Loved His own who were in the world, He showed them the full extent of His Love (see verse 1).
He is “the humble Servant” Who has shown us ‘the way of humility and service’, first, to God; and then to our brethren.
He said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him” (v.16 KJV).
No “servant” is greater than his master, nor is a “messenger” greater than the one who sent him.

In chapter 14 He is “the Great Comforter”
Jesus Christ is “the Great Comforter,” He comforted His disciples with these words:
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me.
In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
And whither I go ye know, and the Way ye know.
John 14:1-4 KJV
In verse 6, He said to Thomas, "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life…”
He promised another Comforter (Paraclete) like Him—the Holy Spirit.
And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Yet a little while, and the world seeth Me no more; but ye see Me: because I live, ye shall live also.
John 14:16-19 KJV

He said, “I will not leave you as orphans” [fatherless] (verse 18).
In verse 27, He said, “Peace I leave with you, My Peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (KJV).
The world has no comforter, but the people of God have “the Great Comforter.”
Again I looked and saw all the oppression that was taking place under the sun:
I saw the tears of the oppressed —
and they have no comforter;
power was on the side of their oppressors —
and they have no comforter.
Eccl 4:1 NIV
He is our Comforter in sorrow; even when it feels like sorrow is beyond healing—He will never leave His children desolate.

In chapter 15 He is “the True Vine”
"I am the True Vine, and My Father is the Gardener. He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the Word I have spoken to you. Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the Vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.
"I am the Vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in Me and My Words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to My Father's Glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be My disciples.
John 15:1-8 NIV
Jesus is “the True Vine.”
As ‘branches” of “the Vine” we are alive in Christ and He lives in our hearts—we are vitally united with Him.
“The branch” that is united to “the Vine” bears good fruit.
Because we are united with Christ Jesus, we are given the privilege to ask anything of the Father in the Name of the Son, and it will be done for us.
By this our Heavenly Father [the Gardener] is glorified.

In chapter 16 He is “the Baptizer in the Holy Ghost”

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.
And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
Of sin, because they believe not on Me;
Of righteousness, because I go to My Father, and ye see Me no more;
Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all Truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.
John 16:7-13 KJV
Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit. He also revealed the work of the Holy Spirit.
“The Spirit of Truth” guides us into ‘all Truth.’
He brings Glory to Jesus!
In verses 14 and 15 Jesus said, “He will bring Glory to Me by taking from
what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father
is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you” (NIV).

At the river Jordan, the Spirit descended on Jesus in bodily form like a dove—for He is “the Baptizer in the Holy Ghost” (Luke 3:22).

In chapter 17 He is “the Intercessor”
In this chapter, we are cognizant with Jesus’ "High-Priestly Prayers."
He intercedes for us because we are His.
Jesus' prayed for Himself.
After Jesus said this, He looked toward Heaven and prayed:
"Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted Him Authority over all people that He might give Eternal Life to all those You have given Him. Now this is Eternal Life: that they may know You, the only True God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you Glory on earth by completing the work you gave Me to do. And now, Father, glorify Me in Your Presence with the Glory I had with You before the world began.
John 17:1-5 NIV

He interceded for His disciples.
"I have revealed You to those whom You gave Me out of the world. They were Yours; You gave them to Me and they have obeyed Your Word. Now they know that everything You have given Me comes from You. For I gave them the Words You gave Me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from You, and they believed that You sent Me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those You have given Me, for they are Yours. All I have is Yours, and all You have is mine. And Glory has come to Me through them. I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, protect them by the Power of Your Name — the Name You gave Me — so that they may be one as We are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that Name You gave Me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
"I am coming to You now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of My Joy within them. I have given them Your Word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My Prayer is not that You take them out of the world but that You protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the Truth; Your Word is Truth. As You sent Me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify Myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
John 17:6-19 NIV

And as well for all believers.
"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the Glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as We are one: I in them and You in Me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me and have Loved them even as You have Loved Me.
"Father, I want those You have given Me to be with Me where I am, and to see My Glory, the Glory You have given Me because You Loved Me before the creation of the world.
"Righteous Father, though the world does not know You, I know You, and they know that You have sent me. I have made You known to them, and will continue to make You known in order that the Love You have for Me may be in them and that I Myself may be in them."
John 17:20-26 NIV
Jesus intercedes for the Church for her many grieves and trials.
He is “the Intercessor” at the right hand of the Father; His Holy Spirit intercedes for us here in the earth.

In chapter 18 He is “the Suffering Messiah”
When He had finished praying, Jesus left with His disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was an olive grove, and He and His disciples went into it.
Now Judas, who betrayed Him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with His disciples. So Judas came to the grove, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.
Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to Him, went out and asked them, "Who is it you want?"
"Jesus of Nazareth," they replied.
"I am He," Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) When Jesus said, "I am He," they drew back and fell to the ground.
Again He asked them, "Who is it you want?"
And they said, "Jesus of Nazareth."
"I told you that I am He," Jesus answered. "If you are looking for Me, then let these men go."  This happened so that the Words He had spoken would be fulfilled: "I have not lost one of those You gave Me."
Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.)
Jesus commanded Peter, "Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given Me?"
Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound Him and brought Him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year.
John 18:1-13 NIV
Jesus is "the Suffering Messiah."
Judas betrayed Him, and He was seized in the Garden at night.
As "the Suffering Messiah," He knew "all things that should come upon Him."
He knew God’s Will and Purpose in His Plan of Redemption.
In John 6:39 He said:“And this is the Will of Him Who sent Me, that I shall lose none of all that He has given Me, but raise them up at the last day” (NIV).
When He interceded for His disciples He said: “While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that Name You gave Me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled” (17:12 NIV).
His Name is above every other name.
He said "I Am He" (18:5).
He is "I AM".

He was mocked, striped, bruised, wounded and crucified for us for He is "the Suffering Messiah."

In chapter 19 He is “the Uplifted Savior”
In John 19 Jesus is “the Uplifted Savior.”
And He bearing His cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
Where they crucified Him, and two other with Him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
John 19:17-20 KJV

He poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors.
He bore the sins of ‘many’ and made intercession for the transgressors (read Isaiah 53:12). In Luke 22, He declared that this must be fulfilled in Him.
Verses 28 to 30 of John 19 narrate the humble manner by which the Son of Man laid down His life on the cross.
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to His mouth.
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost.
John 19:28-30KJV

In order for God’s Plan for our Redemption to be fully accomplished, it is His Will and Purpose for the Son of Man to be “lifted up”.
Jesus Himself said, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me” (John 12:32 KJV).
He was delivered into the hands of evil men so that He would be nailed to the cross; this was by the determinate Counsel and Foreknowledge of God –by His set Purpose (Acts 2:23). He humbled Himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross! (Phil 2:8).
He is “the Uplifted Savior”.

In chapter 20 He is “the Conqueror over Death”
In chapter 20 “the Uplifted Savior” became “the Conqueror over Death.”
Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus Loved, and said, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put Him!"
So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus' head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)
Then the disciples went back to their homes, but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.
They asked her, "Woman, why are you crying?"
"They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put Him." At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.
John 20:1-14 NIV

For the Joy that was set before Him, He endured the cross (Heb.12:2).
Early, while it was still dark, on the first day of the week, our Lord rose from the dead; He rose just before the rising of the sun.
The mighty stone which sealed the tomb was rolled away!
Matthew 28:2 says, “And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the Angel of the Lord descended from Heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it” (KJV).
Jesus’ disciples did not understand from Scripture that He had to rise from the dead, even though Psalm 16:10 prophesied:
For Thou wilt not leave My soul in hell; neither wilt Thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption (KJV).
He is “the Firstborn from the dead” (Col. 1:18; Rev 1:5).
Before His death, He told His disciples in Galilee saying:
“The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”

After Jesus rose from the dead, He met with Mary, and His disciples, and later went into Galilee (the city where He grew up as a young boy), and met His brothers, and mother. He was called a "Nazarene" (see Matt.2:23).
He paid the price for Salvation on the Cross of Calvary, and went down into hell and the grave—He conquered as “the LORD Strong and Mighty”—“the LORD Mighty in battle,” and He rose from the dead as “the KING of GLORY” with all Authority in Heaven and on Earth.

Psalm 24:3-5 declares:
Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in His Holy Place?
He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive the Blessing from the Lord, and Righteousness from the God of his Salvation (KJV).
Jesus, after He rose from the dead ascended into the hill of the Lord—He entered into the Most Holy Place in Heaven as the Eternal High Priest, once for all by His own Blood, having obtained Eternal Redemption (read Heb 9:11-12).
He entered with ‘clean hands’ and a pure heart.
He has received “the Blessing” from the LORD [GOD THE FATHER], and “Righteousness” from the GOD of His Salvation.
He is “the Conqueror over death.”
“Hallelujah!”

In chapter 21 He is “the Restorer of Human Lives”
So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me more than these? He saith unto Him, Yea, Lord; Thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me? He saith unto Him, Yea, Lord; Thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me? Peter was grieved because He said unto him the third time, Lovest thou Me? And he said unto Him, Lord, Thou knowest all things; Thou knowest that I love Thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
This spake He, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He saith unto him, Follow Me.
Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus Loved following; which also leaned on His breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth Thee?
Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou Me.
John 21:15-22 KJV

After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to 7 of His disciples by the Sea of Tiberias. His Presence in their midst brought about a miraculous ‘catch’ of “multitude of fish.” Each moment of His appearance to them since after His resurrection was often at a time in which they are gathered together; as also seen in chapter 20:19, 26.

Peter was "spiritually-naked" (without divine covering, without divine protection). He was exposed to the danger of apostasy.
Peter once said to Jesus:  “Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the Words of Eternal Life. And we believe and are sure that Thou art that Christ, the Son of the Living God” (John 6:68-69 KJV)
Yet, later he denied Him three times.

When Peter said to Jesus:
“I will lay down my life for thy sake” (13:37b).
Jesus answered him, “Wilt thou lay down thy life for My sake?
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied Me thrice (v.38 KJV).
In Luke’s Gospel, chapter 22, we see that the Lord said to Peter, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren (vv.31-32 KJV).

Jesus restored Peter.
He rescued him from falling away, and restored him.
Peter's restoration happen the third time Jesus appeared to His disciples after He was raised from the dead.

In Acts 10:39-42 Peter speaks to the Gentiles saying:
"We are witnesses of all the things He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross. " God raised Him up on the third day and granted that He become visible, not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, that is, to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead (NASU).
