“Strike Down the Shepherd and the Sheep Will Be
Scattered”
You may
recognize this as coming from Zechariah
13:7. It was quoted by Jesus the
night before He died as a reference to Himself (Matthew 26:31; Mark 14:27).
As this prophecy spoke that night of Jesus in the
flesh, so it speaks for all time since of Jesus in the spirit.
Matthew
26:31 Then
saith Jesus unto them, “All ye shall be offended because of Me this night: for it is
written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be
scattered abroad.”

If you would give Jesus free reign in your heart,
give the Holy Spirit free reign in your heart – for this is how Jesus moves and
reveals Himself today. To be led by Jesus Christ is to
be led by the Spirit (Romans 8:14;
Galatians 5:18). The “Great Shepherd of the sheep” (Hebrews 13:20) did once walk the earth
in the flesh (Hebrews 5:7), but we
know Him according to the flesh no longer (2
Corinthians 5:16).
Rather, “now the Lord is the Spirit” (2
Corinthians 3:17).
