Cherubims
A Cherubim (or
Cherub) is a winged celestial being. The four living creatures in the Seals of
Revelation 6, are cherubims of Heaven. Cherubim guarded the way at the east of
the Garden of Eden (Gen.3:24).
Prophet Ezekiel also
recorded his vision of the cherubims—the Glory of God rose from above the
cherubim (Ezk. 10).
In Hebrew 9:1-10 the
temporary sacrifices by the Levites in the earthly tabernacle, with the
lampstand, the table and the consecrated bread, was called "the Holy
Place." Behind the second curtain was a room called "the Holy of
Holies", which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of
the Covenant, with the gold jar of manna. Also, Aaron's staff that had budded
and the stone tablets of the Covenant.
Above the ark were
the the cherubims, overshadowing the atonement cover. Now, take note; the
priestly ministry takes place in the outer room only—"the Holy
Place."Only the high priest entered the inner room—"the Holy of
Holies", only but once a year.
The Way into "the
Holy of Holies" was disclosed and made open by JESUS CHRIST—our High
Priest of a New Covenant—by His BLOOD He availed "the new order"
(God's New And Better Way).
He has brought us
into "the Time of Reformation"; better than the days of external
regulations, which are canal partakings without 'the service perfect'. Only The
Lamb Of God, slain before the foundations of the world, was able to perform
'the perfect service'.
Cherubims of glory;
holy heavenly creatures, were above the ark of the Covenant—they overshadowed
The Glory of the golden altar of sacrifice in the tabernacle in Heaven.
Read that again!
Think about it for a
moment!
The cherubims were eye-witnesses of the Eternal Sacrifice of
Christ Jesus,
The HOLY LAMB OF GOD!
He came as High Priest
of the good things that are already here—referring to the temporal earthly
tabernacle, which represented The Perfect Tabernacle—Jesus Christ (verse 11).
In Heaven, God is
enthroned between the cherubims (Psa.99:1). Also, we read in II Samuel 22:11, that,
God rode upon a cherub; as His chariot (Psa.104:3).
Seraphims
Concerning seraphims,
the Bible records:
“In the year that king Uzziah died, I saw The
Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of His robe filled the
temple. Above Him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they
covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were
flying. And they were calling to one another:
"Holy, Holy, Holy is The Lord
Almighty; the whole earth is full of His Glory."
At the sound of their voices the doorposts
and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
Isaiah 6:1-4
When Isaiah saw the
Glory of GOD, and the seraphims, he cried:
"Woe
to me! I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen The
King, The LORD ALMIGHTY"
(verse 5).
Isaiah thought that
he would die—he declared himself, that his doom is sealed, beholding The Lord
Of Hosts, and seeing the six-winged seraphs in a great antiphonal
chorus, as the sound of their voices moved and shook the Temple in Heaven
to its foundations, and suddenly the entire Sanctuary was filled with smoke.
These six-winged
seraphs are properly conscious and aware of the atonement and redemptive work
which THE HOLY LAMB OF GOD had wrought by His BLOOD for the saints. In verse 6
and 7, one of the seraphs flew to him with a live coal in his hand taken from
the altar—with it he touched his mouth and said,
"See, this has
touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for."
With this, Isaiah was
cleansed before being Commissioned by The LORD (verse 8-13).
