Divine Purpose & Importance of The Lord’s Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer is cherished by all Christians because of its
simplicity, beautiful imagery, and instructive value.
“Our
Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name”
(Matthew 6:9 KJV)
This indicates the spirit of adoration and reverence
in which we should approach our Heavenly Father.
“Thy
Kingdom come”
(Matt 6:10a)
We are to preach and proclaim everyday, God’s coming
Kingdom. The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. His Kingdom comes to supersede the
kingdoms of this world.
“Thy Will be done in earth, as it is in
Heaven”
(Matt 6:10b)
This line, expresses the longing for a civilization
on earth where the Father’s Will is as perfectly done as it is in Heaven.
“Give
us this day our daily Bread”
(Matt 6:11)
Addresses a loving Father Who is concerned for our
daily spiritual welfare. Likewise, our dependence is on Him for our physical
needs.
“And
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors”
(Matt 6:12)
Here is a petition for pardon and remission of our
sins, as we approach God in a spirit of forgiveness toward others.
“And
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”
(Matt 6:13a)
This is a request for God’s divine continual
protection from the snares of satan and all his evil forces.
“For
Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, for ever. Amen”
(Matt 6:13b)
The Lord’s Prayer closing doxology appropriately
attributes all power and glory to God for all eternity.
In our prayers, we should indicate our submission to
the divine Dominion and Authority of Christ in our lives. For in Him dwells all
the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and He is highly exalted above all.
Jesus taught us to say The Lord’s Prayer every day.
