The Holy Communion

The Holy Communion

The Lord's Passover became an everlasting memorial unto the children of Israel.
It is the sacrifice of the Lord's Passover, Who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when He slew the Egyptians, and spared the homes of the children of Israel.
For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the Lord will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.
And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the Lord will give you, according as He hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.
And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the Lord's Passover, Who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when He smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
And the children of Israel went away, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.
Ex 12:23-28 KJV

The Upper Room Is Prepared
Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed.
And He sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the Passover, that we may eat.
And they said unto Him, Where wilt Thou that we prepare?
And He said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the Passover with My disciples?
And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
And they went, and found as He had said unto them: and they made ready the Passover.
Luke 22:7-13 KJV
LESSON
The Unleavened Bread is called “matzah” in Hebrew.
The Feast of Unleavened Bread is the day on which the Passover lamb had to be killed.
Jesus ate the Passover “the Pesach meal” (Heb.) with His disciples “talmidim” (Heb.) in a large room upstairs (upper room) already furnished (v.12). We shall drink of “the Fruit of the Vine” (the Holy Communion) with Christ Jesus when the Kingdom of God comes.
The upper room where Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples was a cool location.

Jesus Celebrates the Passover with His Disciples

And when the hour was come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him.
And He said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer:
For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.
And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
For I say unto you, I will not drink of the Fruit of the Vine, until the Kingdom of God shall come.
Luke 22:14-18 KJV
LESSON
Christ celebrated the Passover with His disciples at ‘the divinely appointed hour.’ He said to them: "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.”
Christ observed the Passover in the evening before the morning—same day that He was crucified.
Christ kept the Passover in the evening and was crucified “the morning” of the same day (the 6th hour), before the end of ‘day.’ He died at ‘the ninth hour.’

The Lord’s Supper Instituted
And He took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is My body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of Me.
Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the New Testament in My Blood, which is shed for you.
Luke 22:19-20 KJV
LESSON
The Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks, and broke it (b’rakhah, Heb.).  He said: “This is My Body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of Me.” And He said: "This cup is the New Covenant in My Blood, which is poured out for you.”

Every time we partake of the Holy Communion, we represent and signify and proclaim the fact of the Lord's death until He comes.

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till He come.
1 Cor 11:26 KJV

The Son of Man was to die just as “the Tanakh” says.  His Blood shed for us on the Cross ratifies the New Covenant. When He had sung a hymn with His disciples, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Now when the even was come, He sat down with the twelve.
And as they did eat, He said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray Me.
And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto Him, Lord, is it I?
And He answered and said, He that dippeth His hand with Me in the dish, the same shall betray Me.
The Son of Man goeth as it is written of Him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
Then Judas, which betrayed Him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is My Body.
And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
For this is My Blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's Kingdom.
And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
Matt 26:20-30 KJV

After Christ's Resurrection, on the road to Emmaus, it was when Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them, that their eyes were opened and they recognized Him (see  Luke 24:30-31, 33-35).

Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast — as you really are. For Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed.
1 Cor 5:7 NIV

'Blessed are those who are invited to the Wedding Supper of the Lamb!'"
Rev 19:9 NIV

The Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Love of God, and the Communion of the Holy Ghost, be with [me]. Amen (2 Cor. 13:14 KJV).
