Priest of
The Most High God
Jesus Christ
is the eternal Priest of God in the order of Melchizedek.
The Lord has sworn and will not change His Mind:
"You are a Priest forever, in the order of
Melchizedek."
The Lord is at your right hand; He will crush kings on the
Day of His wrath.
He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead and crushing
the rulers of the whole earth.
He will drink from a brook beside the way; therefore He
will lift up His head.
Ps 110:4-7 NIV
In the Old
Testament, King Melchizedek received a tenth of everything from Abraham, “like
The Son Of God” He remains a Priest forever.
The Levites,
who collect the tithe, paid it through Abraham, because when Melchizedek met
Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor (Heb 7:9-10).
Understand
that, as long as the Scriptures declare Melchizedek “like The Son Of God”
remains a Priest forever, elsewhere; Jesus Christ “a Priest forever in the
order of Melchizedek,” therefore, Jesus Christ—receives the tithe in The New
Covenant which He initiated.
The tithe is
a decree by God, covenanted with Abraham before the time of the Law. Only God
Himself can receive the “tithe” which He initiated.
In ‘the
Levitical priesthood,’ tithes are received by men who are subject to death;
while in “the order of Melchizedek,” the tithe is received by One of Whom it is
testified that He lives perpetually.
This Melchizedek was
King of Salem and Priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the
defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave Him a tenth of
everything. First, His Name means "King of Righteousness"; then also,
"King of Salem" means "King of Peace." Without father or
mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like The
Son Of God He remains a Priest forever.
Just think how great
He was: Even the patriarch Abraham gave Him a tenth of the plunder! Now the law
requires the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the
people — that is, their brothers — even though their brothers are descended
from Abraham. This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he
collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed Him Who had the promises. And
without doubt the lesser person is blessed by the greater. In the one case, the
tenth is collected by men who die; but in the other case, by Him Who is
declared to be living.
Heb 7:1-8 NIV
Melchizedek
lives on.
He was “Priest
of The Most High God,” qualified and anointed in an extraordinary manner to be
His Priest in the earth—to setup His eternal priesthood for the redemption of
man which would follow at a later time; which would accomplish a New Covenant.
Jesus is
alive forever more.
The Lord
Jesus is “The Priest of The Most High God,” both the Jew and the Gentiles must
come to God through Him; it is only through His priesthood that we can obtain
reconciliation and remission of sin.
