JUDGES
In Judges He is “our
Righteous Judge.”
In the Old Testament, each judge was a savior and a
ruler; a spiritual and political deliverer. Thus the judges portray the role of
Christ as the Savior and King. The Book of Judges also illustrates the divine
rule of Christ—the Righteous King.
And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel,
and went out to war:
Judg. 3:10 KJV
There were about 17
judges altogether in the Old Testament. Some of the judges were warrior-rulers
(e.g., Othniel and Gideon), one was a great champion mightier than an army
(Samson), one was a priest (Eli), and one was a prophet (Samuel).
This gives a
cumulative picture of the three offices of Christ, Who excelled all His
predecessors in that He is the Greater Prophet, the Perfect Priest, and the
Righteous King.
Jesus Christ is the
Righteous Judge Who will reward each victorious saint in eternity.
Now there is in store for me the crown of Righteousness, which
the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will award to me on that Day — and not only to
me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.
