more than One divine Person.
The Name Of The Lord
is a strong tower:
the righteous runneth
into it, and is safe.
Proverbs 18:10 KJV
Jehovah Sabaoth
The Lord Of Hosts
Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a
sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in The Name Of
The Lord Of Hosts, The God of the armies of Israel, Whom thou hast defied.
This day will The Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will
smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the
host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild
beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
I Samuel 17:45-46 KJV
In this one of the most famous combats in the entire
“Old Testament times,” this special NAME of The GOD of the armies of Israel—
Yahweh Sabaoth [also, Jehovah Tsebaoth] was openly declared. This NAME OF THE
LORD, translated "The LORD of hosts," was used in the days of David
and the prophets, witnessing to GOD The Savior Who is surrounded by His
Heavenly hosts.
David killed Goliath by the Power of The LORD Of
Hosts, for He declared in that great contest:
“…This day will The Lord deliver thee into mine
hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the
carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and
to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a
God in Israel (verse 46).”
David, all his life, loved GOD dearly. He addresses
himself to this combat as a soldier that was going to engage an enemy of his
country. And even when he became king and priest he stood for divine Justice.
It was not military weapons that gave David the
victory over the giant Goliath; for the battle belongs to The LORD, and HE gave
Goliath into the hands of David, and all the Philistines into the hands of HIS
people (v.47-48)
Psalm 24 reveals to us that JESUS CHRIST is “The
LORD Of Hosts”— HE is “JEHOVAH SABAOTH” Who went down into “the underworld” as
“the gates of hell” were commanded to open up for HIM.
HE conquered sin
[‘original sin’ which was inherent in us, with our lifetime transgressions], death
[second death, and physical death which will be swallowed up in immortality at
“the Resurrection”], the
grave [Sheol (Heb.), Hades (Greek), abode of the dead,
state of decay], hell
[Gehenna (Greek)], and satan
[the adversary of the saints].
HE conquered for us.
Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye
everlasting doors; and The King Of Glory shall come in.
Who is this King Of Glory? The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye
everlasting doors; and The King Of Glory shall come in.
Who is this King Of Glory? The Lord Of Hosts,
He is The King Of Glory. Selah.
Psalm 24:7-10 KJV
